Why Choose A Hair Transplant?

Choosing a hair transplant is a significant step, and it’s the only clinical treatment that produces permanent regrowth in areas where hair has been lost. A hair transplant works by relocating healthy follicles from the back and sides of the scalp, which are genetically resistant to thinning, to the areas that need coverage. Once those follicles establish, they can grow for the rest of your life.

Cost

The Cost of a Hair Transplant in Peterborough

For Peterborough patients, hair transplant costs run from £2,499 to £4,899 and are 5☆ all-inclusive, with GMC-registered surgeons at CQC-registered clinics and no surprises on surgery day. What you pay reflects your graft count, agreed after a surgeon reviews your case. The factors below set out the main considerations.

Our prices are the same at every My Hair UK clinic. See the UK hair transplant cost guide for prices by graft count, cost per graft and exactly what is included.

How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost in Peterborough?

A hair transplant is widely quoted at £2,500 to £12,000 by clinics across the UK. At My Hair UK the price is fixed, from £2,499 for 500 grafts to £4,899 for 3,500 grafts, and it is the same for Peterborough patients as everywhere else in the UK, because we price by graft count rather than by city. The table below sets both side by side.

GraftsMy Hair UK PriceWidely quoted locallyTypical case
500 grafts£2,499£3,000 to £3,500Minor temple points or a hairline touch-up

5,000 grafts£8,198 total£11,000 to £12,000Advanced loss, front and crown, two sessions
6,000 grafts£8,998 total£12,000 or moreOur largest planned restoration, two sessions

Comparison figures are published prices from clinics operating in the UK, collected August 2026. They are shown for context and are not our quotes. Our price includes the consultation, the surgeon-led procedure, post-operative medication, your aftercare kit and in-person follow-up, with nothing added on the day.

Rows up to 3,500 grafts are a single session, and 3,500 is our maximum in one sitting. Anything above that is planned as two sessions at least six months apart to protect the donor area, so the prices shown for 4,000 grafts and above are the combined total for both.

Cost-Factors

Factors Affecting Hair Transplant Costs

Number of Grafts Needed

Graft count is the main factor that determines the cost. Our packages run from 500 to 3,500 grafts, with most patients needing 1,500–3,000. A minor restoration of the front hairline or temples may be 1,000–1,500 grafts, while a large crown section typically needs 2,500–3,000. Higher graft counts extend the surgical day and move you into a higher priced package.

Extent of Hair Loss

The Norwood scale stage you sit on (the clinical grading of male pattern baldness) determines the graft count you need. Early temple recession is a lower-graft case than a Norwood VI with significant crown loss. The consultation also includes a donor-area density check to confirm the realistic supply of grafts. This is a step some clinics miss.

Hair Type and Texture

The surgeons work with the full range of hair types and textures. Coarser hair delivers better hair transplant coverage per graft than fine hair, so a patient with thick hair can often reach the same visual density with fewer grafts. Afro-textured and curly hair call for surgeons with specific experience, because follicle shape and curl angle change the extraction technique. We’ll cover this in your consultation.

Surgeon Expertise

The surgeon at the table is what shapes the result. Each of the clinic’s surgeons is GMC-registered and has personally performed more than 1,000 FUE hair transplant procedures. Individual surgeon experience is what matters here, not team totals. Natural-looking results come from surgeon skill, not machines. How the hairline is designed, the angle each follicle sits at, and how the donor area is preserved all matter more than equipment. That’s why the surgical team places each graft by hand rather than using automated systems.

How Many Grafts Will I Need?

Graft count is what sets your price, and it follows your stage of hair loss on the Norwood scale. These are guide figures; your own number is confirmed at a free in-person consultation with the surgeon who would carry out your procedure.

Norwood stageTypical patternGrafts usually neededTypical cost with My Hair UK
Stage 1Slight recession, no visible thinningOften none; up to 1,000 if suitableMonitoring or medication first
Stage 2Temple recession, mature hairline1,000 to 1,500£2,899 to £3,299
Stage 3Deeper recession at the temples2,000 to 2,500£3,699 to £4,099
Stage 3 vertexRecession plus thinning at the crown2,500 to 3,500£4,099 to £4,899
Stage 4Significant frontal loss, larger crown3,000 to 4,000£4,499 to £4,899, may need two
Stage 5Front and crown grow, band narrows4,000 to 5,000, often two sessions£4,899 to £8,198
Stage 6One large area of loss5,000 to 6,000, two sessions£8,198 to £8,998 in total
Stage 7Only a horseshoe at back and sidesDemand exceeds donor supplyUsually not suitable

The honest constraint behind these figures is your donor area, which can typically supply 6,000 to 7,000 grafts across a lifetime. That is why we cap a single session at 3,500 grafts, and why advanced loss cannot always be fully restored. For every session size, cost per graft and a full breakdown of what is included, see our UK hair transplant cost guide.

A specialist examines your scalp under magnification, grades your hair loss on the Norwood scale (for men) or Ludwig scale (for women), and checks the density of your donor area.

Goal discussion & plan

We talk through what you want a transplant to achieve. You’ll get a graft count estimate and a tier price based on the clinical assessment. There are no surprise add-ons on surgery day.

Meet the surgeon

You can meet the GMC-registered surgeon who would perform your procedure. They answer technical questions directly.

Recovery-Timeline

Recovery and Results Timeline

Recovery is mostly straightforward, with detailed aftercare guidance from the team to lean on at each stage. It’s faster than older hair transplant techniques, though the final result still takes time. A summary is below:

• First 24 hours after: Expect mild swelling and tightness.

• Week 1: The donor and recipient areas scab naturally. No scratching, no heavy lifting.

• Weeks 2–3: Transplanted hair sheds. This is normal. The follicle stays in place while the shaft falls out before it regrows.

• Month 3: New growth emerges from the transplanted follicles.

• Month 6: Visible thickening.

• Months 9–12: Full density and final result.

More detail on each phase, including washing routines, sleeping advice, exercise limits and medication, lives in our detailed recovery guide.

What's Included In The Price?

Pricing at My Hair UK is all-inclusive: one figure covers consultation, surgery and every aftercare touchpoint, with nothing extra on the day. Your tier package covers every stage of treatment, with no consultation fee. Here’s what the price covers:

Initial consultation: a specialist reviews your hair loss, works through your medical history and maps out a tailored treatment plan

FUE hair transplant: the surgery itself, including local anaesthetic, how the donor area is preserved and follicle placement

Post-operative aftercare: detailed recovery guidance, follow-up appointments and a direct line to the clinic if anything comes up while you recover

Named GMC-registered surgeon: you will know who is performing your procedure before surgery day

The Benefits of FUE Hair Transplants

No linear scar. FUE leaves tiny individual marks across the donor area that heal quickly and aren’t visible under normal-length hair. FUT (strip surgery) leaves a single visible line.

Faster recovery. There are no stitches or sutures to remove, and most patients are back at desk-based work within a week.

Precision for hairlines. Placing follicles one at a time allows surgeons to recreate the natural single-hair density at the front hairline. Strip surgery cannot match this reliably.

Suitable for shorter hairstyles. Because there is no linear scar, FUE patients can wear their hair short without showing a scar.

More on how the procedure runs in our FUE surgery explained article.

The Hair Transplant Procedure for Peterborough Patients

The FUE hair transplant is carried out under local anaesthetic. You remain awake, but you won’t feel the extraction or placement. Individual follicles are removed from the back and sides of the scalp (genetically resistant to thinning) and placed into the thinned or receded areas.

The process:

1. Consultation: your hair loss is assessed in person, your goals are discussed, and a graft count and treatment plan are agreed. You meet the surgeon who will operate on you.

2. Preparation: on surgery day you’re settled in for the procedure. The donor area is trimmed and local anaesthetic is administered. The procedure is comfortable, but expect a full day at the clinic.

3. Extraction and placement: follicles are extracted one by one and placed into the recipient area at matching angles and densities. Surgical time is driven by graft count, typically 5 to 8 hours.

4. Recovery: you leave with detailed aftercare to support you through the early weeks. Desk-based work is usually fine within a week; more physical work should wait until the 2-week mark. The final result develops over 9 to 12 months.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What does a hair transplant cost for Peterborough patients?

Hair transplant costs for Peterborough patients are 5☆ all-inclusive and run from £2,499 to £4,899, with GMC-registered surgeons at CQC-registered clinics and no hidden extras. What you pay reflects the number of grafts needed, agreed after a surgeon reviews your case.

2. How painful is a hair transplant?

It shouldn’t hurt. FUE runs under local anaesthetic, so you’re awake but you don’t feel the extraction or placement. Patients typically describe the day as long rather than painful.

3. When do hair transplant results show?

The transplanted hair sheds at week 2 to 3. This is normal and expected. New growth starts around month 3, thickening is visible by 6 months, and the full result comes through at 9 to 12 months.

4. How long before I can return to work or exercise?

Desk-based work is typically fine within a week. Leave the gym and general exercise for 2 weeks. Contact sports need longer. You’ll get a specific timeline in your post-op briefing.

5. How many grafts does a hair transplant need?

Our packages cover 500 to 3,500 grafts, though most patients fall in the 1,500–3,000 range. A small crown patch or temple recession might be 800-1,200 grafts. Restoring a full front hairline can need 3,000+ grafts. A specialist will confirm your graft count at consultation by grading your hair loss on the Norwood scale.

6. How long does the procedure take?

The procedure runs 5 to 8 hours in most cases, driven by graft count. Allow a full day at the clinic once you factor in preparation and the post-procedure briefing.

7. Do you offer hair transplants for women?

Yes, in the right cases. FUE works for hairline lowering, scar concealment and diffuse female thinning where the donor area is strong enough. Detail and case examples are covered at consultation.

8. Does a hair transplant last forever?

Yes. The follicles taken from the donor area (back and sides of the scalp) are genetically resistant to thinning. Once transplanted, they can continue to grow for the rest of your life. See our how long do hair transplants last for the detail.

9. How do Peterborough patients get to the clinic?

Peterborough to Manchester is around 3 hours by train via Birmingham New Street to Manchester Piccadilly; to London it’s around 1 hour by direct LNER train to London King's Cross, then the Underground to Kenton. See the Travel section above for the full train and car routes to both clinics.

10. What medication do I need after a hair transplant?

You’ll typically leave with a short course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and painkillers for the first few days. Longer-term, some patients continue on finasteride or minoxidil to preserve the hair that hasn’t been transplanted. Our medication after a hair transplant guide covers the detail.
