How Much Does 2000 Grafts Hair Transplant Cost and Cover?

A 2000 graft hair transplant costs £3,699 at My Hair UK, which works out at £1.85 per graft. Those 2000 grafts cover about 50cm2 at the hairline, roughly the area you would get by drawing round an apple, or about 80cm2 on the crown, a round patch close to 10cm across.

The Cost for a 2000 Graft Hair Transplant

2000 grafts costs £3,699 at My Hair UK. The price is fixed before surgery and does not move on the day, which matters more than it sounds: where clinics charge per graft, the final figure is only settled once the surgeon has counted what was placed.

That works out at £1.85 per graft. UK clinics widely quote £5,000 to £6,500 for 2000 grafts, and per-graft pricing is commonly quoted between £3 and £5.

The price covers the consultation with the surgeon who would perform your procedure, the surgery itself under local anaesthetic, all post-operative medication, your aftercare kit, and in-person follow-up appointments. There is no consultation fee, and nothing is added on the day.

The one exception is PRP, which is a separate treatment rather than part of a transplant, so it is not included and it is not standard. Some patients choose to add a session on the day or later on, and it is charged separately if they do.

If you are weighing this against going abroad, our UK vs Turkey cost comparison sets out what the difference actually covers.

Every quote is a fixed price agreed before surgery, not an estimate. If you would like to know what your own number would be, send a few photographs and we will come back with a graft range and the price attached to it.

How Much does a 2000 Grafts Hair Transplant Cover?

2000 grafts covers about 50cm2 at the hairline, or about 80cm2 on the crown. The difference is density: a hairline needs around 40 grafts per square centimetre to look natural because it is seen straight on, while a crown can look full at 25 because the hair lies flatter and catches less light.

A hairline is a band rather than a circle, so the useful way to picture 2000 grafts at the front is depth: it brings the hairline forward by roughly 2cm across its full width. That is about the area you would cover by drawing round an apple. On a crown, where the loss is broadly circular, the same 2000 grafts spreads across a patch about 10cm across. What that means for each area is worked through in the two sections below.

Your own number is worked out per square centimetre from your hair thickness, the colour contrast against your scalp and the density you want, so treat these as a guide rather than a quote. We can usually estimate to within a few hundred grafts from photographs, and confirm it at a free consultation with the surgeon who would carry out your procedure.

Is 2000 Grafts Enough for the Front Hairline?

2000 grafts covers about 50cm2 at the hairline, which at 40 grafts per square centimetre is a band roughly 2cm deep across the full width.

That is a full hairline rebuild with the temples included, typically Norwood stage 3. It is enough to bring a hairline forward to a natural adult position and restore both corners at the same density, rather than prioritising one and leaving the other thin.

2000 is also the size at which the hairline and the front of the mid scalp can be treated as one continuous area, provided the crown is holding. If the crown has gone as well, read the next section before settling on a number, because 2000 will not do both.

Our hairline and temples transplant page goes into how the front edge is designed and planted.

Is 2000 Grafts Enough for the Crown?

On the crown, 2000 grafts covers about 80cm2, a round patch roughly 10cm across at 25 grafts per square centimetre.

That covers a defined bald patch at the vertex, which is the most common reason people arrive at this number. It restores a crown that has opened up rather than merely thinned, and carries the density far enough out that the edge of the transplanted area does not show.

The crown takes more grafts than the same apparent area at the front, for two reasons. It is a curved surface, so the real area is larger than a photograph suggests. And the hair spirals outward from the whorl, so grafts have to be angled to follow it or the result looks flat however many are placed.

There is more about how the area is assessed on our crown hair transplant page.

Not sure whether 2000 is your number? The area is measured at a free consultation with the surgeon who would carry out the procedure, so you get a figure based on your scalp rather than an average.

2000 Graft Hair Transplant After 2 Weeks.jpeg

What 2000 Grafts Looks Like

2000 grafts is around 4,400 individual hairs, because a follicular unit graft carries one to four hairs and averages about 2.2. Across a hairline and temples that reads as a rebuilt front rather than a touched-up one, which is why 2000 is the most commonly requested number.

2000 Graft Hair Transplant 1 Week After Surgery

Above Image shows a patients two weeks after a 2000 graft FUE procedure. The transplanted grafts are in place across the hairline and temples and visible as short stubble, which shows the area 2000 grafts covers. Those hairs shed over the following weeks before regrowth begins, so this is the placement rather than the result. New growth starts around three months, with the final result between nine and twelve months. Photograph shared with the patient's consent.

The result is not visible straight away. Transplanted hairs shed within the first few weeks, which is expected and not a sign anything has gone wrong. New growth generally starts around three months, and the final result settles between nine and twelve months as the hairs thicken and the density fills in.

What 2000 grafts will not do is rebuild a hairline and a crown to the same density in one session. Split across both, each area ends up thinner than it would be on its own, which is why most people at this number choose one area and plan the other separately.

How Long Does a 2000 Graft Procedure Take?

A 2000 graft FUE procedure takes five to seven hours, carried out in a single day under local anaesthetic, so you stay comfortable and awake throughout.

Before surgery you are given instructions on how to prepare, including dietary restrictions and medications to avoid. Afterwards recovery is usually quick, with most people back to normal activities within a few days.

Growth follows the same timeline as any FUE procedure. The transplanted hairs shed within the first few weeks, new growth generally begins around three months, and the final result settles between nine and twelve months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is 2000 grafts enough for the crown?

A: 2000 grafts covers about 80cm2 on the crown, a round patch roughly 10cm across, which covers a defined bald patch at the vertex. A crown that has gone completely across a wider area usually needs 2500 to 3000 grafts.

Q: How much area does 2000 grafts cover?

A: About 50cm2 at the hairline, planted at 40 grafts per square centimetre, which is a band roughly 2cm deep across the full width. On the crown, where 25 grafts per square centimetre still looks natural, the same 2000 grafts covers about 80cm2.

Q: Is 2000 grafts enough for a hairline?

A: Yes. 2000 grafts is a full hairline rebuild with the temples included, typically Norwood stage 3, and it is the most commonly requested number for exactly that reason.

Q: Is 2000 grafts a lot?

A: It is the middle of the range rather than a large procedure. Our sessions run from 500 up to 3500 grafts in one sitting, so 2000 sits comfortably in the middle and is the number most patients need.

Q: How much is a 2000 graft hair transplant?

A: £3,699 at My Hair UK, fixed and all-inclusive. That is £1.85 per graft. UK clinics widely quote £5,000 to £6,500 for the same number.

Q: How many hairs is 2000 grafts?

A: Around 4,400. Each graft is a follicular unit carrying one to four hairs, averaging about 2.2.

Q: How long does a 2000 graft hair transplant take?

A: Five to seven hours in a single day, under local anaesthetic. Most people are back to normal activities within a few days, with the final result between nine and twelve months.
