The Cost of a Hair Transplant in Manchester with My Hair UK
Hair transplant costs at My Hair UK are set out clearly upfront. Packages start at £2,499 and run to £4,899, and most Manchester patients spend in the £3,500 to £4,500 range once their consultation and graft count estimate are worked out during your consultation. What you pay reflects how many grafts are needed, which itself depends on the extent of your hair loss, your hair type, and the outcome you want. The factors below explain what we consider when working this out in your consultation:
Why Choose A Hair Transplant?
A Hair Transplant is the only clinical treatment that produces significant and permanent regrowth in areas where hair has been lost through male pattern baldness. A hair transplant works by relocating healthy follicles from the back and sides of the scalp, which are genetically resistant to thinning, to the areas that need coverage. Once those follicles establish, they can grow for the rest of your life.

Factors Affecting Hair Transplant Costs
Number of Grafts Needed
Graft count is the single biggest factor in the cost. Our packages cover 500 to 3,500 grafts, though most patients fall in the 1,500–3,000 range. A small crown patch might be 800 grafts. A full front hairline restoration can need 3,000+ grafts. Very large areas of loss may need 2 procedures spaced a minimum of 6 months apart.
Extent of Hair Loss
The Norwood scale stage you sit on (the clinical grading of male pattern baldness) determines the graft count you need. Early temple recession is a lower-graft case than a Norwood VI with significant crown loss. The consultation also includes a donor-area density check to confirm the realistic supply of grafts. This is a step some clinics miss.
Hair Type and Texture
The team has experience with all hair types and textures. Coarser hair gives better hair transplant coverage per graft than fine hair, so a patient with thick hair may need fewer grafts for the same visual density. Afro-textured and curly hair require surgeons with specific experience, as follicle shape and curl angle affect extraction technique. We’ll discuss this in more detail at consultation.
Surgeon Expertise
The surgeon you choose makes a meaningful difference. Each of the surgeons is GMC-registered and has personally performed over 1,000 FUE hair transplant procedures so you're in good hands. Natural-looking results come from surgeon skill, not machines. How the hairline is designed, the angle each follicle sits at, and how the donor area is preserved all matter more than equipment. That’s why the surgical team places each graft by hand.

What to Expect at Your Consultation
Your hair transplant consultation is free and there is no obligation to book. It takes around 45 minutes and gives you the information you need to decide in your own time. Here’s what happens:
Medical history
We take a brief medical history: current medications, previous surgeries, conditions that affect healing, and whether you’ve already spoken to your GP about hair loss.
Scalp assessment
A specialist examines your scalp under magnification, grades your hair loss on the Norwood scale (for men) or Ludwig scale (for women), and checks the density of your donor area.
Goal discussion & plan
We talk through what you want a transplant to achieve. You’ll get a graft count estimate and a tier price based on the clinical assessment. There are no surprise add-ons on surgery day.
Meet the surgeon
You can meet the GMC-registered surgeon who would perform your procedure. They answer technical questions directly.
No pressure to decide
You’ll leave with a tailored treatment plan, a personalised quote, and time to think it over. Most patients take a few weeks before booking.
Why Choose My Hair UK
There are plenty of hair transplant clinics in the UK. Here’s what makes My Hair UK different:
• Regulated UK medical standards. GMC-registered surgeons, CQC-registered clinics. Every surgeon is listed on the GMC register and personally accountable for their work.
• Transparent, all-inclusive pricing. The price you pay covers your hair transplant consultation, surgery, and aftercare. No hidden costs or add-ons.
• You meet your surgeon before surgery. Unlike many Turkey clinics (and some UK providers), you’ll know who is performing your procedure at consultation, and you’ll see them again on the day.
• Central Location. The clinic is on Deansgate in central Manchester, easily walkable in 5 minutes from Victoria station and surounded by hotels and multi-storey car parks for travel or overnight stays.
Recovery and Results Timeline
Recovery is mostly straightforward, with detailed aftercare guidance from the team to lean on at each stage. It’s faster than older hair transplant techniques, though the final result still takes time. A summary is below:
• First 24 hours after: Expect mild swelling and tightness.
• Week 1: The donor and recipient areas scab naturally. No scratching, no heavy lifting.
• Weeks 2–3: Transplanted hair sheds. This is normal. The follicle stays in place while the shaft falls out before it regrows.
• Month 3: New growth emerges from the transplanted follicles.
• Month 6: Visible thickening.
• Months 9–12: Full density and final result.
More detail on each phase, including washing routines, sleeping advice, exercise limits and medication, lives in our detailed recovery guide.
What's Included In The Price?
All-inclusive at My Hair UK means one price covers the whole journey, from first consultation through to your final follow-up, with no extra costs added on the day. Your tier package takes in every stage of treatment, and there is no consultation fee. Here’s what that price covers:
• Initial consultation: a specialist assesses your hair loss, takes your medical history and builds a treatment plan tailored to you
• FUE hair transplant: the procedure itself, covering local anaesthetic, how the donor area is preserved and follicle placement
• Post-operative aftercare: all medication needed for the recovery period, detailed aftercare instructions in a dedicated patient portal, scheduled follow-ups and a direct line to the clinic for anything that comes up during recovery
• Named GMC-registered surgeon: you’ll know in advance exactly who is performing your procedure
The Benefits of FUE Hair Transplants
• No linear scar. FUE leaves tiny individual marks across the donor area that heal quickly, fade over time and aren’t visible under normal-length hair.
• Faster recovery. There are no stitches or sutures to remove, and most patients are back at desk-based work within a week, or 2 weeks for manual work.
• Precision for hairlines. Placing follicles one at a time allows surgeons to recreate the natural single-hair density at the front hairline. Strip surgery cannot match this reliably.
• Suitable for shorter hairstyles. Because there is no linear scar, FUE patients can wear their hair short without showing a scar.
More on how the procedure runs in our FUE hair transplant guide.
The Surgical Team
The surgical team is what makes the difference on the day. The clinics’ five surgeons are all GMC-registered, with a minimum of 1,000 FUE hair transplant procedures each to their name. Between them the team handles complex cases, including Afro-textured and women’s hair transplants, hairline design and lowering, and revision work.

The Hair Transplant Procedure at the Manchester Clinic
On the day, the procedure runs about 4 to 8 hours depending on graft count.
Here's what to expect:
1. Arrival at the Manchester clinic. You arrive at Deansgate around 9am. There is paperwork (consent forms, medical history sign-off), a final photograph of the donor and recipient areas, and a hairline drawing session and detailed planning with the surgeon. We will not start until you are happy with the drawn hairline.
2. Donor preparation. The back-and-sides donor area is shaved short to allow follicle extraction. Local anaesthetic is administered. Most patients describe this as a brief sting rather than pain.
3. Extraction. The surgical team harvests grafts individually from the donor area using a 0.7–1.0mm extraction tool depending on your hair thickness. Grafts are sorted and kept in a holding solution while extraction continues. This stage typically takes 2–3 hours.
4. Recipient site creation. The surgeon makes microincisions in the recipient area following the hairline design. Angle, direction and density at this stage determine how natural the result looks; it is the single most artisimportant part that sets the architecture for the full procedure.
5. Lunch break. A short break, food, drink, and time off your feet. You are not under sedation; you can chat, scroll your phone, or watch something.
6. Placement. Grafts are placed into the recipient sites one at a time. This stage takes 2–3 hours. By the end of placement you will have the structural shape of the new hairline visible, although it will look scabby and red for the next 7–10 days.
7. Aftercare brief and discharge. You leave with full aftercare instructions and medication, a saline spray, a take-home pack, and aftercare contact details for any questions. We discharge late afternoon. Most Manchester patients take a taxi home or are picked up as you cannot drive immediately after surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is the average cost of a hair transplant in Manchester?
The cost of a hair transplant at the Manchester clinic generally ranges between £3,500 to £4,500 for most patients, depending on the number of grafts and the complexity of the procedure. At My Hair UK, our prices start at £2,499 up to £4,899 for a single procedure.
2. Does the number of grafts affect the cost of the procedure?
Yes, the number of grafts needed is one of the primary factors that affect the overall cost. More grafts typically mean a higher cost due to the increased time and expertise required for the procedure.
3. Is a consultation necessary to determine the cost of my hair transplant?
Absolutely. A thorough consultation with one of our specialists is essential for providing an accurate cost estimate. We will assess your hair loss and provide you with a tailored treatment plan and pricing based on your unique needs.
4. What is included in the cost of a hair transplant at My Hair UK?
Our hair transplant prices include the consultation, the procedure, and all necessary aftercare. We provide a clear breakdown of costs upfront, with no hidden fees.
5. Is your only clinic in Manchester?
along with our Manchester clinic on Deansgate, we also have a state of the art facility in the south of England, our London hair transplant clinic is based in Harrow, north west London for patients located firther away and has identical prices and services offered.
6. How painful is a hair transplant?
Not during surgery. FUE is done under local anaesthetic. You stay awake but don’t feel the extraction or placement. Most patients describe it as a long but comfortable day.
7. How soon will I see results?
The transplanted hair sheds at week 2 to 3. This is normal and expected. New growth starts around month 3, thickening is visible by 6 months, and the full result comes through at 9 to 12 months.
8. How soon can I return to work and exercise?
Most patients return to desk-based work within a week. Exercise and gym should be avoided for 2 weeks. Contact sports should be avoided for longer. We’ll give you a specific timeline during your post-op briefing.
9. What graft count will I need?
Our packages span 500 to 3,500 grafts, with most patients needing 1,500–3,000. Minor restoration of temples or a small crown patch may sit at 1,000-1,500 grafts. Restoring a full front hairline can need 3,000+ grafts. A specialist will confirm your graft count at consultation by grading your hair loss on the Norwood scale.
10. How many hours does a hair transplant take?
The procedure typically takes 5 to 8 hours, depending on graft count. Expect a full day at the clinic including preparation, surgery, and post-procedure briefing.
11. How do FUE and FUT compare?
FUE takes follicles individually. There’s no linear scar, faster recovery, and it suits shorter hairstyles. FUT removes a whole strip of scalp from the donor area and leaves a linear scar. The clinics only run FUE because for most patients the recovery and look are both better.
12. Is an unshaven hair transplant possible?
Yes, for smaller cases. An unshaven or partially shaven FUE works where the donor area can be reached without fully shaving the head. It adds time and isn’t right for every case. The surgeon decides at consultation. More detail in our hair transplant without shaving guide.
13. What age can I have a hair transplant?
The legal minimum age for a hair transplant in the UK is 18. Even so, patients in their late teens or early to mid 20s should be assessed carefully. Hair loss may still be progressing in that age range, and there’s a higher chance of needing further surgery later as more hair is lost over time. See our age guide for hair transplants.
14. How do I prepare for the consultation?
Little preparation is needed. Bring a list of current medications, note any conditions that affect healing, and ideally speak to your GP in advance about your hair loss. Come with questions. There’s no pressure to book on the day.
