Crown Hair Transplant

How does a Crown Hair Transplant work and will it be right for me?
let's find out...

Balding crown needs Hair Transplant surgery

After the front hairline, the crown area is the second most likely location you will lose hair from, so it’s one of the most popular areas to get a hair transplant, and is commonly referred to as a ‘bald patch’. The vast majority of balding crowns are caused by Androgenic Alopecia otherwise known as Male Pattern Baldness, and while the hair loss can be slowed down or stopped using drugs like finasteride, and treatments like derma rollering or LLLT can give a small improvement, there is no non-surgical treatment that will give really significant regrowth, so a hair transplant is the only recognised method for restoring hair coverage on the crown. A
crown hair transplant with MY-Hair UK will involve the FUE technique to restore hair loss on the top of the scalp, we do not offer the old fashioned FUT technique due to its significant scarring and poor recovery times.

We do find that surgeons across the industry tell patients that crown transplant results can take longer to see that front hairlines and that they have a slightly lower overall graft regrowth rate in general due to the reduced blood supply most people have under their skin in that area when compared to the front hairline, as there aren’t that many muscles to supply, and we find it takes 12-18 months to see the final result, with individual outcomes very much dependent on the patient.

Depending on the amount of hair loss you may need anywhere from 1000 up to 3500 grafts in the crown to provide good coverage, and typically have a lot of surface area that needs filling, so you need a strong donor area with plenty of available hair follicles to transplant, with the direction and positioning of the grafts absolutely vital to the realistic appearance of the final result.

A crown hair transplant is completed in a day under local anaesthetic at either our London or Manchester transplant clinic and will take typically from 5-8 hours depending on graft numbers needed, with 10 days on average required as recovery time.
