Hair Transplant Cost in the UK in 2024
How much does a hair transplant cost in the UK in 2024? There are a number of factors that contribute to the overall price, with MY Hair UK they start from £2,500 and rise to around £4,900 for 1 day's surgery, depending on the number of grafts and complexity of the case. Some individuals who require a large number of grafts may need 2 days of surgery so will cost more.

Factors that affect the cost include the amount of hair loss, the area of the loss and the hair type (Afro Caribbean hair is particularly challenging due to the shape of the hair follicle, requires a specific afro hair specialist and this can adjust both the cost and the maximum number of grafts possible in a single surgical procedure.)

How is the cost of a hair transplant calculated?
We calculate the price during a consultation by a through examination of the patients head, assessing the condition of the donor area, the hair type, thickness and density, and the amount of grafts available, and then also assessing the area of hair loss, and estimating the total surface area. We can then classify the hair loss stage using the Norwood scale (or the similar Ludwig Scale for women's hair)

While those without a knowledge of how a hair transplant works tend to mistakenly assume that "More Grafts Is Better" this is absolutely not the case. There is a optimum number of grafts per square cm that will give the best result, and is dependent on hair thickness and type, and is typically between 30-40 grafts per square cm. Trying to fit more than this into a patch of skin dramatically increases the risk of the transplant failing, and can lead to skin necrosis which is where patch of skin effectively dies and you lose all the grafts put into it. Extracting too many grafts from the donor area can also lead to over-harvesting, leaving the donor area looking too sparse or patchy and is also to be avoided.
Because we need to balance the graft numbers needed to implant with the graft numbers available to harvest along with the hair type, thickness and density, plus take into account other medical conditions, age, and the type or result the patient is expecting the best way to get an accurate idea of the hair transplant cost for your own personal circumstances is to have a free consultation with one of our clinic trichologists:

How Much does an FUE Hair Transplant Cost in the UK?
Prices vary quite widely depending on the clinic and graft numbers, in 2024 a recent report showed that for what is considered a typical requirement of 2500 grafts, the average cost quoted across all UK clinics was just under £5000, with MY Hair UK we expect that to be less. Our full price list based around implant numbers is below:

We would suggest budgeting between £3,500 - £4,500 for a quality UK clinic like ourselves, with a 50% deposit needed to book, and the remaining 50% balance due on the day of surgery.
Guessing at a price without having a consultation first is a recipe for disaster though, as we have seen when a patient guesses what they might need as a "small transplant" in their eyes can be very different to what the actually need following a clinical assessment from a medical professional, so always book a consultation first:
How Much Does a Women's Hair Transplant Cost?
Women's hair transplant costs can vary depending on the type of hair loss being experienced as well as graft numbers needed, as you may be experiencing one of several conditions: a diffuse thinning across the top of the scalp possibly caused by Androgenetic Alopecia, thinning at the front of the head caused by Traction Alopecia, or possibly you are not experiencing hair loss and you simply want your hairline bringing forward with Hairline Lowering Surgery.
Typically these all require quite substantial graft numbers of 2000 or more so we would again suggest a budget of around £3500 - £4500 for a single day's procedure. Advice is always book a free consultation first for a medical assessment of your needs
How Much Does a Afro Caribbean Hair Transplant Cost?
Afro hair transplants are varied due to the complexity of the procedure - the straighter your hair is the straighter the hair follicle (or root) is, making extracting it easier, the more curly it is the more difficult, Afro Caribbean style hair has very curved, almost C shaped hair follicles under the skin, making extraction a very time consuming specialised process to ensure the grafts are not damaged, and need an Afro hair specialist doctor to perform.
Typically the maximum Graft numbers possible in 1 days surgery for this hair type is limited to around 2000 so would suggest a budget of around £3500 - £4500 for a single day's procedure, but be aware for larger areas you may need 2 days surgery spaced 6 months part, each with a separate cost.
