How Much Does 2500 Grafts Hair Transplant Cost and Cover?

A 2500 graft hair transplant costs £4,099 at My Hair UK, which works out at £1.64 per graft. Those 2500 grafts cover about 63cm2 at the hairline, enough to rebuild a receding hairline and carry the density back into the mid scalp, or about 100cm2 on the crown, a round patch roughly 11cm across.

The Cost for a 2500 Graft Hair Transplant

2500 grafts costs £4,099 at My Hair UK. The price is fixed before surgery and does not move on the day, which matters more than it sounds: where clinics charge per graft, the final figure is only settled once the surgeon has counted what was placed.

That works out at £1.64 per graft. UK clinics widely quote £6,000 to £7,000 for 2500 grafts, and per-graft pricing is commonly quoted between £3 and £5. The price covers the consultation with the surgeon who would perform your procedure, the surgery itself under local anaesthetic, all post-operative medication, your aftercare kit, and in-person follow-up appointments.

There is no consultation fee, and nothing is added on the day. The one exception is PRP, which is a separate treatment rather than part of a transplant, so it is not included and it is not standard. Some patients choose to add a session on the day or later on, and it is charged separately if they do.

If you are weighing this against going abroad, our UK vs Turkey cost comparison sets out what the difference actually covers.

Every quote is a fixed price agreed before surgery, not an estimate. If you would like to know what your own number would be, send a few photographs and we will come back with a graft range and the price attached to it.

How Much Does 2500 Grafts Cover?

2500 grafts covers about 63cm2 at the hairline, or about 100cm2 on the crown. The difference is density: a hairline needs around 40 grafts per square centimetre to look natural because it is seen straight on, while a crown can look full at 25 because the hair lies flatter and catches less light.

A hairline is a band rather than a circle, so the useful way to picture 2500 grafts at the front is depth: it rebuilds a band about 2.5cm deep across the full width of the hairline. On a crown, where the loss is broadly circular, the same 2500 grafts spreads across a round patch about 11cm across. What that means for each area is worked through in the two sections below.

Your own number is worked out per square centimetre from your hair thickness, the colour contrast against your scalp and the density you want, so treat these as a guide rather than a quote. We can usually estimate to within a few hundred grafts from photographs, and confirm it at a free consultation with the surgeon who would carry out your procedure.

Is 2500 Grafts Enough for the Front Hairline?

2500 grafts covers about 63cm2 at the hairline, which at 40 grafts per square centimetre is a band roughly 2.5cm deep across the full width.

In practice a 2500 graft session at the front is often planned as one continuous area running from the hairline back towards the central vertex, rather than a band at the front alone. That is where Norwood stage 3 to 4 usually sits, and it suits medium recession with the classic M shape, where the corners have gone back and the centre has started to follow them.

At this size the design matters as much as the number. The hairline itself takes the highest density because it is seen straight on, then the density is graded going back so the join with your existing hair reads as a gradual change rather than a visible line.

Existing hair is worked with, not cleared. Where a patch of your own hair still sits inside the area being treated, it is kept and grafts are placed around it, which is why an early photograph often shows an island of longer hair in the middle of the transplanted zone.

If the crown is thinning as well, 2500 spent entirely on the front leaves it untouched. Most people at this stage are choosing which area matters more to them rather than covering both.

Our hairline and temples transplant page goes into how the front edge is designed and planted.

Is 2500 Grafts Enough for the Crown?

On the crown, 2500 grafts covers about 100cm2, a round patch roughly 11cm across at 25 grafts per square centimetre.

That covers most established crowns, including those where the bald area has spread out beyond the whorl towards the back of the mid scalp. At this size the whorl itself has to be rebuilt rather than worked around, which means the grafts at the centre are angled outward in a spiral and the density is graded so the boundary disappears into the hair around it.

The crown takes more grafts than the same apparent area at the front, for two reasons. It sits on a curved surface, so the real area is larger than a photograph suggests. And the hair spirals outward from the whorl, so grafts have to follow that pattern or the result looks flat however many are placed.

If your hairline has receded as well, 2500 spent on the crown leaves the front as it is. Which area to treat first usually comes down to how each one photographs and how you wear your hair. There is more about how the area is assessed on our crown hair transplant page.

Not sure whether 2500 is your number? The area is measured at a free consultation with the surgeon who would carry out the procedure, so you get a figure based on your scalp rather than an average.

What 2500 Grafts Looks Like

2500 grafts is around 5,500 individual hairs, because a follicular unit graft carries one to four hairs and averages about 2.2. Across a hairline carried back into the mid scalp, that reads as a restored front rather than a hairline alone.

The two photographs below are different patients, both treated with 2500 grafts from the hairline back towards the central vertex. In each case an island of the patient's own hair sat inside the area being treated and was kept, with grafts placed around it.

Photographs shared purely to give an idea of coverage expected from graft numbers, final results can vary.

Patient B: 2500 Graft Hair Transplant 1 Week After Surgery

Patient A: Immediately after a 2500 graft FUE procedure, treated from the hairline back towards the central vertex. The placed grafts are visible as fine dots across the whole treated area, which shows the ground 2500 grafts covers. The longer hair in the centre of the hairline is the patient's own, kept and planted around.

Patient B:  different patient, one week after a 2500 graft FUE procedure across the same area. At one week the transplanted hairs are in place as short stubble and the redness is settling. Those hairs shed over the following weeks before regrowth begins, so this shows the placement rather than the result.

The final result is not visible straight away. Transplanted hairs shed within the first few weeks, which is expected and not a sign anything has gone wrong. New growth generally starts around three months, and the final result settles between nine and twelve months as the hairs thicken and the density fills in.

What 2500 grafts will not do is rebuild a hairline and a crown to the same density in one session. Split across both, each area ends up thinner than it would be on its own.

How Long Does a 2500 Graft Procedure Take?

2500 graft FUE procedure takes six to seven hours, carried out in a single day under local anaesthetic, so you stay comfortable and awake throughout.

Before surgery you are given specific guidelines to follow so that you arrive fully prepared. Afterwards most people are back to their normal activities within seven to ten days.

Growth follows the same timeline as any FUE procedure. The transplanted hairs shed within the first few weeks, new growth generally begins around three months, and the final result settles between nine and twelve months.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is 2500 grafts enough for the crown?

A: 2500 grafts covers about 100cm2 on the crown, a round patch roughly 11cm across, which covers most established crowns including those that have spread beyond the whorl. At that size the whorl is rebuilt rather than worked around.

Q: How much area does 2500 grafts cover?

A: About 63cm2 at the hairline, planted at 40 grafts per square centimetre, which is a band roughly 2.5cm deep across the full width. On the crown, where 25 grafts per square centimetre still looks natural, the same 2500 grafts covers about 100cm2.

Q: Is 2500 grafts enough for a hairline?

A: Yes. A 2500 graft session at the front is usually planned as one area running from the hairline back towards the central vertex, which is where Norwood stage 3 to 4 sits, and it suits medium recession with the classic M shape.

Q: Is 2500 grafts a lot?

A: It is toward the upper end of a single session. Our sessions run up to 3500 grafts in one sitting, so 2500 is a large procedure but not our largest, and it is a typical number once recession has reached the mid scalp.

Q: How much is a 2500 graft hair transplant?

A: £4,099 at My Hair UK, fixed and all-inclusive. That is £1.64 per graft. UK clinics widely quote £6,000 to £7,000 for the same number.

Q: How many hairs is 2500 grafts?

A: Around 5,500. Each graft is a follicular unit carrying one to four hairs, averaging about 2.2.

Q: How long does a 2500 graft hair transplant take?

A: Six to seven hours in a single day, under local anaesthetic. Most people are back to normal activities within seven to ten days, with the final result between nine and twelve months.
